Woman shot twice in Lowndes County

By Tayleigh Davis

LAKE PARK, GA (WALB) – A shooting early Saturday sent a Lowndes County woman to the hospital.

The Lowndes County Sheriffs office says a call came to 911 shortly after midnight that a woman was shot in Lake Park.

It happened at 3490 Duck Point Drive.

The sheriff says 47-year-old Jeffrey Bennett accused his live-in girlfriend 53-year-old Rebecca Irwin of stealing money.

Bennett shot Irwin once in the leg and once in the shoulder as she tried to escape.

Irwin was able to drive to her friend's house where rescue crews later took her to the hospital.

Irwin is currently in stable condition. Bennett was arrested and charged with aggravated assault under the family violence act.
