VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) –The shelter that opened up earlier this week in Lowndes County due to the cold weather needs food for those staying the night.

The shelter at Mathis City Auditorium has been extended for another day because of the weather forecast. They're now open from 6 p.m. to 10 a.m. until Tuesday morning.

The shelter has enough supplies, however, the Red Cross could use meals for the weekend.

"They still need a few catered meals for this weekend," said Lowndes County Public Information Officer Paige Dukes. "Those meals have to come from a restaurant or from someone with a catering license. Unfortunately due to regulations they cannot accept meals from private citizens."

If you want to find out how you can donate meals or make a financial donation, call 229-300-6094.
