ALBANY, GA (WALB) – A South Georgia family is awarded $1.5 Million in a wrongful death suit.

In August 2006, 22-year-old Cleve Bostick, of Mitchell County, was run over by a pickup truck in a driveway in Mexico Beach, Florida.

His longtime friend, David Phelps, was driving the truck and was charged with DUI manslaughter.

Bostick's family sued Phelps and a Lowndes County jury awarded them $1.5 million.

"There's still a lot of sadness," said Attorney Paul Phillips. "A lot of grief and that may never end for them, but at least to know that someone has gone and found everything that there is to know. I think that gave them some closure."

Attorney Patrick Millsaps said, "now both of these families who have suffered this tragedy. I think now knowing a little bit more about what happened, can now, at this moment, move on."

Bostick was about to graduate from the University of Georgia and was awarded his degree posthumously.

Phelps is serving four years in prison for his criminal conviction.
