ALBANY, GA (WALB) -  A national magazine says Albany is one of the best hosts in the country for sporting events.

Albany won a Readers Choice Award from Sports Events magazine based on how well the city attracts and puts on family friendly sporting events.

The January edition will highlight Albany as "A Place to Watch in 2010."

The magazine learned about the "Good Life City" when a representative from the convention and visitors bureau attended a conference to promote Albany as a sports destination.

"We are stepping up and showing we can host major sporting events," said Visitors Bureau Spokesperson Liz Gray. "We have a perfect arena for it and we have great facilities so it really is show chasing Albany as a destination."

The next major events in Albany are the marathon and professional bike races the first weekend of March.
