Crews end search for John Slappey

ALBANY,  GA (WALB) – Florida officials called off the search for a missing hunter from Albany.

34-year-old John Slappey disappeared while duck hunting on Lake Seminole more than two weeks ago.

Officials say he got too close to the Jim Woodruff dam and was swept over it into the Apalachicola River.

Florida Fish and Wildlife crews and the Chattahoochee Police Department scanned the river for the last time yesterday.

Volunteer groups are still out there Thursday though searching. Florida officials say they will continue to do occasional checks on the river.
