ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Albany will get money from the state labor department to try to attract a new industry to the former Cooper Tire building.

State labor commissioner Michael Thurmond will present a $25,000 grant to the Albany Dougherty Economic Development commission Wednesday afternoon.

Cooper Tire shut down the Albany plant last year putting more than 1,400 people out of work.

A similar grant in Lumpkin County helped them successfully find a buyer for a building vacated by a textile manufacturer.
