VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) – It's been a violent year in Valdosta with 10 murders in the city. Police say they've solved nine of them.

The only murder case in which no one has been arrested is that of a homeless man whose body was found outside of Gallegos Paint and Body.

36-year-old Ventura Ortiz's body was spotted by workers the morning of November 9th. Police say the case is difficult to solve because no one knew him well... but they are following leads.

"We absolutely hope that this new year will bring less violent crimes, less crime overall," said VPD Capt. Bobbi McGraw. "We're trying to educate the public... educate young people that violence is not the answer to the problem."

Valdosta Police want you to contact them if you'd like an officer to talk to your organization about violence.
