City council meeting ends with member behind bars

DAMASCUS, GA (WALB) – A south Georgia city council member is behind bars, after a heated meeting ended with a scuffle Tuesday afternoon.

Damascus city council member Gloria Ann Roberts-McMurray was in the Early County jail Tuesday night, and she will likely be charged with several crimes Wednesday.

We're told McMurray was arguing with council member Phyllis Kraft, at a meeting to discuss the cost to rebuild the city's broken pump station.

City clerk Gloria Wynds tried to separate the women and was knocked down.  Her knee was injured, but she's recovering.

McMurray left the meeting and was later picked up by police at her home.
