Americus-- Sumter County Middle School students won a very rare, international award-- and all it took was a little creativity.
These kids are members of the "Odyssey of the Mind" team. They are performing a skit, they wrote and produced, based on a puzzle they were given to solve in the "Odyssey of the Mind" competition.
Their solution won them first place in the Southwest Georgia region, and an award for exceptional creativity that is rarely given.
"It's pretty easy," said 6th Grader Rebecca Willis. "We kinda chose an idea, we change it with each of our ideas together."
"I thought we would win first place in the competition," said 6th Grader David Parks. "But I didn't think we would win that award," he said, laughing.
The name of the award is a bit of a tongue twister. Its called the "Renatra Fusca."
It's the most coveted award in the competition and is given only when a team shows superior creativity.
