Albany - Dougherty County commissioners unanimously agree to study the pros and cons of consolidating the city and county governments. County leaders want to create a study commission of 20 non-elected citizens to research whether consolidation would save tax payers money and improve services.
"We haven't reviewed our services in about 30 years, " said Chairman Jeff Sinyard. "We need to make sure the citizens are getting the most for their money."
Now, City commissioners must vote on the creation of a study commission. If the commission finds that consolidation is a good idea, it could be put on a referendum for voters to decide.
