VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) –Georgia's tallest Martin Luther King, Junior memorial was erected on Tuesday in Valdosta.
The base of the 41-foot tall monument is engraved with the famous "I have a dream speech."
It's the centerpiece of the MLK Memorial Park that's still under construction.
Outgoing City Councilman Willie Head says the project is one of the highlights of the eight years he's served this district.
"I'm close to tears," Councilman Head. "When I first walked up and saw what's happening, it's just difficult to put into words. But the heart knows, if you will, and I think the many assembled here have the same feeling."
A grand opening for the park is set for January 16th.
