South Georgia Mardi Gras was a success

March 9, 2003

Albany- Between 1,800 and 2,000 people came out in the rain to enjoy the festival. There were no major problems and the downtown merchants association profited about $500 after expenses.

Phil Cannon, of the Downtown Merchants Association, says that business owners along Broad Avenue say traffic in their stores during the March first event was the heaviest it had been in 10 years.

The money made from the Mardi Gras Festival will be used to finance a similar Fourth of July street event.
