ALBANY, GA (WALB) – A local church is also reaching out to people to help ease their financial burden.
Union Missionary Baptist Church had a big food giveaway in East Albany this morning.
Hundreds stood in line hours before volunteers started handing out boxes of food.
Some even received a turkey.
While we were there the church had already given out 600 of 1,000 boxes.
"We are a church that is concerned about the whole man not just his spiritual needs but his physical needs as well, this is our first food drive, we decided we would do this today just to help some people out there's a great need a lot of people are unemployed," said John Severson, Union Missionary Baptist Church.
The pastor said they didn't forget about the elderly, church members packed more than one hundred fruit baskets that were delivered to nursing homes.
