(Macon-AP) -- The Early County girls claimed their first state championship today, overcoming a three-point third quarter to beat Randolph-Clay 44 to 38 in overtime.
Early (28-2) trailed 31 to 24 entering the fourth quarter, but held the Lady Red Devils (23-3) to four points in the fourth and three in overtime. Erica McCoy hit two free throws with 1:23 left in overtime to give the Lady Bobcats the lead for good, and Early hit five-of-six free throws in the final minute to pull away.
McCoy scored 16 points for Early, which beat Randolph-Clay for the third time in five meetings. Tiowanna Spann scored eleven and Kewyanna Price ten for Randolph-Clay, whose only losses were to Early.
