SPRINGFIELD, GA (WALB) - Former Valdosta head football coach Rick Tomberlin has been hired as the next head coach at Effingham County.
Tomberlin was introduced at the school in Springfield on Thursday afternoon. Tomberlin was fired by Valdosta after compling a record of 22-21 in 4 seasons. In 27 years as a head coach Tomberlin has won 222 games including 3 state championships at Washington County in the 90's.
Tomberlin served as an assistant at Effingham County in the 80's and says it's nice to be back.
"I don't have words to describe how excited I am about being here. It's a homecoming to a large degree to some extent and I'm really looking forward to getting started and building that foundation rather" said Tomberlin.
Tomberlin will take over full time in March. Until then he'll be going back and forth to Valdosta.
