ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Every Christmas season, some dedicated troops turn their attention from serving our country to serving children in need.

The US Marine Corps Reserve collects thousands of toys from south Georgians.

This weekend they'll hand out the toys to hundreds of families in our area.

We were at the Toys for Tots distribution center yesterday afternoon where Marine Reservists packed up your contributions to make opening gifts on Christmas morning a reality for many children thanks to the generosity of some of you.

"Even though times are tough and people are struggling on their own, to even think about someone is a stretch for a lot of people, but we come true," Cpl. Joseph Erdman, U.S. Marines.

The 430-families will head to that secure location on Saturday to pick up the toys in time for Christmas.

Since 1991 to 2005, Toys for Tots has given more than 65 million toys valued at more than $344 million.
