Church serves 650 people

ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  A South Albany church shares food and Christmas presents with the community Thursday, saying more people than ever need help this Holiday season.

Mt. Zion Baptist Church held their 8th annual community Christmas outreach. Church members prepared meals and wrapped presents for 650 people, the most ever for the lunch.

But they were still concerned they wouldn't have enough to serve everyone.

"Thursday is our regular day for soup kitchen, and the number of people coming for the food and the clothing we give away is skyrocketing. Even today the numbers are larger," said Dr. Daniel Simmons, Pastor of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

Church members also delivered meals to the elderly and shut-ins, who could not attend the Community Christmas lunch.
