Surviving an attack

March 7, 2003

TIFTON - Several South Georgians are taking America's terror alerts seriously and learning to protect themselves. They signed up for a one day class called SAVE, or Surviving a Violent Encounter.

Instructors say there's little you can do on a personal level against something like a biological attack, but you can defend yourself against a simple mugging, or help stop a terrorist from running through an airport.

Dr. Travis Smith, the District Director for SAVE said, "We've trained police, airport security, moms, dads, basically anyone interested in their own personal safety."

Smith says the class has really grown in popularity since the Semptember 11th attacks. Instructors are currently traveling the globe teaching self-defense and anti-terrorism classes.
