County won't give input on consolidation charter

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -   Dougherty County Commissioners have voted against sending a proposed consolidated charter to the Georgia General Assembly.

This happened Wednesday morning, even as Albany city leaders are gave final approval to a consolidated charter Tuesday night.

City Commissioner Roger Marietta says they made changes in recent days, including agreeing on a full-time CEO to head up a potential consolidated government.

After the charter proposal goes through the General Assembly, voters could decide on the consolidation referendum next year.

If it passes, they would elect commissioners for the consolidated government in 2012.
