Albany- Some people who live in an Albany neighborhood are fighting a plan that could put a new school near their homes, but others support it.

The Dougherty County School Board is considering about fifteen locations for a new elementary school, including land on Home Drive. Critics there complain about a potential increase traffic and the high cost of development.

Supporters say they want the school in a neighborhood because kids will be safer.

The school system already bought the Home Drive property, but it would cost another eight hundred thousand dollars to get it ready for construction.

Board members say they will reach a final decision about the new school's location by the end of March.
