VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) –Prescription drugs aren't cheap.
During these tough economic times, it's especially hard for some folks to pay for their medicine.
At a workshop in Valdosta Thursday, seniors wrote down prescriptions they're taking and met with health care professionals to find the Medicare Part D plan that's right for them.
Shirley Cantrell is a dialysis patient who went on disability last year.
Money got tight and she needed help.
She says her new prescription plan will save her a couple thousand dollars.
"A lot of this stuff you could read about but if you didn't understand what they're talking about, it didn't help in selecting a program, and they actually looked at the medications I was taking and found the program that was right for me," said Shirley Cantrell.
The open enrollment period for Medicare Part D ends December 31st.
Congressman Jack Kingston's staff members and a group called Georgia Cares were there to assist seniors Thursday.
