ROCHELLE, GA (WALB) - The Wilcox County Patriots have won 9 in a row and need one more win to claim the program's first state championship
The Patriots take on Savannah Christian Saturday in the Georgia Dome for the title. The upper classmen for Wilcox County know what it's like to play at the Dome. Two years ago Wilcox County finished runner up to ECI. Patriots head coach Mark Ledford says that experience has his team focused on not making the same mistakes this time around.
"It's not that our kids are real excited. They know what's at stake and they're handling it well, they really are. They're pretty settled, pretty calm and being pretty business like and I think that's gonna carry over to the game and I feel very confident that we'll give a great effort up there" said Ledford.
"In the playoffs you've got five games to get to the dome. They're 4-0 and we're 4-0 so it's a good match I mean they can't stop us" said senior WR Lonnie Outlaw.
"I think last time all the crowd and the fans and everything it just got to our heads and we just lost focus but this time we're keeping a lot more low key" said senior DT Justin Harden.
"I want it bad I mean I can't think of another way to end your career here I mean to end your senior season. It's your last game I mean you come in as winners but you can't come out as winners" said senior OL Tommy Fuller.
Wilcox County and Savannah Christian kick off at 1:00 Saturday at the Georgia Dome.
