TIFTON - Investigators say a seventy year old woman is to thank for solving a four-year-old arson case. Macedonia Free Will Baptist Church in Tifton caught fire in June of 1999. Cyrus Manuel Jones was sentenced to 20 years in prison last year for the arson. A woman who wants to remain anonymous figured out Jones had been sleeping outside the church, and was angered they'd asked him to leave.
"Crime doesn't pay, but being a good citizen does pay." Fire Safety Commissioner John Oxendine said. "In this case a Tift County resident got $3200. The Georgia Arson Control board has rewarded tipsters with $989,000 since it began in 1979.
