ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Young people from around the southeast hoped to dance their way to the top.

Hundreds cheered and danced at the Albany Civic Center, hoping to win top honors at the Diamond national championship competition.

Most of the teams were from Georgia and Florida.

"Cheer and dance of all ages five and up, we're giving out bids to another national championship on May the first, so we're just having a lot of fun," said Carol Walters, Diamond Cheer & Dance VP.

This is the first time organizers brought the event to Albany. It will return next year.
