ALBANY, GA (WALB) – An Albany law firm honored an employee who has more than 60 years of service to his country and community. His co-workers donated $500 to the American Red Cross in his name.
81-year-old Bill Hamby was honored by Marines from the Albany base, and his co-workers at Watson Spence law firm.
59 years ago this week Hamby was wounded while fighting at the Chosin Reservoir in Korea. After recovering he was the 13th Marine assigned to build the Marine Base in Albany.
After his retirement, Hamby has volunteered his service in over 85 disasters as a logistics manager with the Southwest Georgia chapter of the Red Cross.
"The good guys need to get recognized. We see too often what the bad guys are doing, but the good guys sometime they run under the radar, and I thought it was time Mr. Hamby got recognition," said Louis Hatcher, a Watson Spence partner.
Bill Hamby has worked the last 20 years on the support staff at the law firm, and his co-workers wanted to honor him and wife Mollie for their years of service to the nation and community.
