Knights earn post-season honors

Deerfield-Windsor senior Joey Carroll is no stranger to the all-GISA basketball team.

Carroll was selected by GISA coaches to the boys AAA all-state team for a fourth consecutive year.

Deerfield-Windsor's all-time leading scorer averaged 19 points and 9 rebounds this year including a 24 point performance in Saturday's 55-48 win over First Presbyterian in the championship game of the GISA AAA state basketball tournament.

Senior Wayne Riles, an all-state selection in football, is an all-state selection in basketball for a third time. Riles averaged 13 points and 9 rebounds.

Head coach Gordy Gruhl is named GISA's AAA boys coach of the year after leading Deerfield-Windsor to their fourth boys basketball state title. It is the fifth state championship in basketball for Gruhl in basketball.

Southland Academy's Bradley Horn was also selected to the AAA boys team and Cara Lucas of Sherwood Christian Academy and Deerfiield-Windsor's Haley Yong were named to the AAA girls all-state team.

In AA, Cody Tabb of Southwest Georgia and Georgia Christian's Drew Copeland make the boys all-state team and Terrell Academy's Brynne Calloway, Southwest Georgia's Renee Hilton and Kelly McMullen of Georgia Christian were named to the girls squad.

GISA coaches also made a posthumous selection for Tiftarea Academy's Darby Pilkington. Pilkington died in a car accident last weekend.
