ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Thirty-nine percent of families in Dougherty County live in poverty, and now the Chamber of commerce hopes to break that cycle. That's where Strive 2 Thrive comes in.
The Chamber launched the initiative Wednesday to address the problem of school drop outs and unemployment, both key in the cycle of poverty. Catherine Glover said, "Poverty is the root of just about every societal ill that we have here and we have to be concerned."
Dr. John Culbreath said, "Help them make good decisions on a regular basis so they can help themselves out of poverty and once they're out, even improve themselves more."
Strive to Thrive kicks off at a summit at the Hilton Garden Inn December 11th.
