ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Dougherty County Police are searching for two men wanted for cashing counterfeit checks at several South Georgia locations.
Police issued arrest warrants for 35-year-George Ferguson the third, and 32-year-old Michael Hines for forgery and theft by deception.
Police say Hines passed two phony payroll checks from J&S Farms at the Acree Beverage Store November 19th and 21st and Ferguson passed one November 21st. All checks were for several hundred dollars.
"These are not violent crimes, but they do cost businesses quite a bit of money. And when a business loses money, it only has one choice, and that's to pass it's loss to the customers," said Captain Jimmy Sexton of the Dougherty County Police Dept.
Investigators say Hines has warrants going back to 2007 for passing phony checks. Sylvester Police are also looking for the men on forgery charges. If you have any information, call Dougherty County Police at 229-430-6600.
