ALBANY, GA (WALB) – More than 50 athletes got jackets or pins Tuesday night at the Special Olympics Dougherty annual banquet at Albany State University. They were certainly the stars of the night, but Special Olympics swimmer and golfer Harry Spruill told us, it's also a chance for the athletes to thank those who support them. He said, "Even though there's special tokens and a really good dinner that they serve, it's to show appreciation that it's not just the athletes that get an award, but everybody else who has contributed to it, especially the volunteers."

Some of the athletes will compete this week. Special Olympics Dougherty bowling and basketball competitions kick off Friday.
