Experienced Cairo ready for #1 Red Elephants

By Robert Hydrick - bio | email

CAIRO, GA (WALB) - The defending state champion Cairo Syrupmakers will face the team many believe will succeed them on the throne in AAA in the state quarterfinals this Friday night.

The Syrupmakers are on the road to play number one and unbeaten Gainesville.

The Red Elephants are led by quarterback Blake Sims who has already committed to Alabama.

Fallaw says Gainesville reminds him of the Carver team that beat Cairo in the AAA state championship game two years ago.

Gainesville has talent.

Cairo has playoff experience.

Friday's game is their 13th playoff game in the last three years.

Tom Fallaw said. "This is our 43rd game in three years. That is almost four and a half seasons in three years. I think that does have tendency to carry you through some games. I don't know if it is going to be able to carry us through this game because there is a lot of talent on that field. Hopefully, it will help us on our trip up there."

Game time is 7:30 p.m. Friday night at Bobby Gruhn Field in Gainesville.
