Lowndes County - A South Georgia Airman was awarded one of the Air Force's top honors.

Captain Yonel Dorelis was presented with the Distinguished Flying Cross for his heroic efforts in Operation Enduring Freedom.

He returned to Moody Air Force Base in March 2002 after a two and a half month deployment to Afghanistan, where he rescued three soldiers wounded in combat.

"I'm honored but I don't think I really deserve it," said Dorelis. "The real reward was bringing those men home safe to their families."

Dorelis says Operation Enduring Freedom was a personal mission for him. He's a New York native and his brother worked in the World Trade Center.
