News release from Zaxby's
ALBANY, Ga. (Nov. 24, 2009) — Construction is underway on Albany's newest Zaxby's restaurant, a Southeast favorite for chicken fingers and Buffalo wings. Licensees Doug and Deborah Durden plan to open the new quick-casual restaurant early next year.
Located at 405 N. Slappey Blvd., just north of Dawson Road, next to Staples, the new restaurant will create an additional 40 to 50 jobs for the area.
"We are excited to bring another convenient location to such a growing area," said Doug, who is also the licensee of the other two Zaxby's in Albany, along with his wife Deborah. "We look forward to providing the same exceptional food and signature service residents have come to expect from Zaxby's, while continuing to be involved in the community as a good neighbor and business partner."
The Durdens opened their first Zaxby's 10 years ago, and with this new addition, their locally owned and operated business will support 150 jobs in the Albany community. "We were fans of the food first, and from the day we began working at Zaxby's, we knew it was a place where we could make a great life for ourselves and family," said Deborah. "The company's emphasis on exceptional food and values fell right in line with our own beliefs and passions."
Zaxby's provides the freshest chicken fingers, Buffalo wings, sandwiches, salads and more in a fun, relaxing atmosphere. Zaxby's is a pioneer of the quick-casual format, providing services and amenities that fall somewhere between fast food and a sit-down restaurant. At the new restaurant, customers will place their orders at the counter, and will be called to pick up their prepared-at-order meals when they are ready. The new 3,195-square-foot location will seat 71 in Zaxby's unique design — a bright, open interior décor complemented by vintage memorabilia and signage. Zaxby's will also offer drive-thru services to meet the needs of customers on the go.
The new location will be the third for Dougherty County and the 184th for Georgia. Zaxby's currently operates more than 485 locations in 11 states throughout the Southeast — Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.
Zaxby's success is rooted in a simple operating philosophy developed by its founders that has matured into the company's mission statement — "consistently create encore experiences that enrich lives one person at a time." That statement is not only the driving force behind the company's pursuit to provide fresh, delicious food and excellent customer service, it's also what helps the company create a fun work atmosphere for employees.
Charlye Sims, the human resources manager, plans to hire 40 to 50 team members for the new restaurant, consisting primarily of cooks and cashiers. Candidates interested in jobs should visit any of the Albany area Zaxby's locations to apply.
"The key to success at Zaxby's is a great smile and a willingness to learn and grow," said George Houston, the district manager. "We're a different kind of restaurant with a different kind of attitude — from the food and service we provide to our customers, to the respect we provide to each other."
An alternative to fast food, Zaxby's offers prepared-at-order chicken fingers, wings, sandwiches and salads. Zaxby's most popular items are its hand-breaded Chicken Fingerz and Jumbo Buffalo Wings, smothered in a choice of 10 sauces with names like Wimpy, Tongue Torch, Nuclear and Insane. The menu also offers innovative Zappetizers — Onion Rings, Tater Chips (home-style potato chips), Spicy Fried Mushrooms and, for a limited time, Fried White Cheddar Bites, as well as a variety of Party Platterz perfect for any family gathering or special occasion.
Zaxby's also offers four salads, or Zalads: The House, The Blue, The Caesar and The Zensation. All of Zaxby's Zalads offer more chicken, unique ingredients, such as French-fried onions, fresh veggies and juicy tomatoes and are larger than most salads offered elsewhere. Each is prepared with chicken, three kinds of lettuce, and a variety of toppings. The Zensation returns to the menu for a limited time only this spring and features Chicken Fingerz drizzled with honey sesame glaze, mixed with red cabbage, carrots, various greens, crispy wonton strips, and topped with Asian slaw. The Zensation is served with Citrus Vinaigrette dressing and a tasty veggie egg roll. All Zalads are assembled at the time the order is placed, versus being pre-made and stored in a cooler.
Zaxby's is a "quick-casual" restaurant chain headquartered in Athens, Ga. Zaxby's opened its first restaurant in Statesboro, Ga., in March 1990, and by July 2001 opened its 100th location in Jacksonville, Fla. Zaxby's celebrated its 200th restaurant opening in its hometown of Athens, Ga., in May 2004, and in December 2005 observed its 300th opening in Dallas, Ga.
Zaxby's founders Zach McLeroy and Tony Townley looked around their community and saw plenty of fast food or sit-down dining options but felt something was missing. They decided to provide the freshest chicken fingers and Buffalo wings in town. That hatched a simple idea to create a fun atmosphere where food quality is of the utmost importance. In 1990, they opened the first Zaxby's in Statesboro, Ga. The concept, one of the early "quick-casual" restaurants, proved successful.
McLeroy and Townley opened four more restaurants, and in 1994, they began to franchise the brand. The food and service was so popular, the Athens, Ga.-based chain has boomed to more than 485 units in 11 Southeastern states (Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia) and continues to grow.
