ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  During a time when most charitable organizations are struggling, the United Way of Colquitt County is exceeding its goals.

Leaders say it's because citizens are committed to meeting to meeting the community's needs. This year, the organization set out to raise $420,000. That exceeded that goal by $17,000.

Campaign chairperson Barbara Jelks says several companies new to Colquitt County have made a difference.

"When you have companies that are doing well and provide an employee match for donations that all helps you to have a successful campaign," said Barbara Jelks, United Way of Colquitt County's campaign chairperson 2010.

Organizers say, they made a big push this year after falling just short of their goal last year.
