Statesboro- In its' final football game of the 2009 season Georgia Southern beat Citadel 13-6 Saturday. After the game Georgia Southern announced it will not be renewing the contract of head coach Chris Hatcher.
The Eagles finished the 2009 season with a 5-6 record, one of only three losing seasons for the program in the last 28 years.
"We just didn't feel like perhaps next year was going to be any different than this year so we just felt like now was the time to do it" said athletic director Sam Baker.
The Eagles missed out on the playoffs for a fourth straight year. Hatcher compiled an 18-15 record in three seasons as head coach.
Baker said the search for a replacement will begin immediately.
