ALBANY, GA (WALB) – This is the season we all celebrate holidays with family and food, but times are tough for some and buying all the fixings for the celebrations could strain some budgets.

But local organizations are stepping up to the plate to make things a bit easier.

Saturday morning the 100 black men of Albany were giving away 100 turkeys and bags of groceries to grandmothers. The organization says they saw a great need.

"We got here around nine but there were folks here at eight o'clock this morning we had almost about 55 people waiting, the line was almost in the street, all of us are doing the best week can and if we can help that's what our organization is about," said Sanford Hillsman, 100 Black Men of Albany President.

The grandmothers who collected the turkeys were selected by the Department of Family and Children Services.
