ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Americorps Students working with the Albany Police are sponsoring a food drive, and asking your help.

The Americorps Students, college students from Albany State University and Darton College, kicked off their food drive Thursday at their East Albany Policing Community Center. The students say they have seen many families in the community in need, while observing Police Officers at work, and they want to help.

Americorps Cadet Deantoine Johnson said "with the economy the way it is today, a lot of people are losing their jobs. Families in need. They need the food."

Friday the Americorps Cadets will take their food drive to the West Policing Center on Dawson Road from 10 am to 6 PM, and then Saturday at the Civic Center.

The donated food will be distributed to needy families.
