ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Traffic is moving a lot slower through Albany's Lake Park neighborhood.
Speed bumps are now up in the Lake Park subdivision, specifically at Lullwater and Forest Glen. Neighbors petitioned for the speed bumps to slow traffic through their neighborhood. Under the new Traffic Calming Policy there are several things engineers can recommend to help slow traffic after studying the area for five to seven days.
"It may be that actually there is a problem in a neighborhood it's not that speed humps are the answer it may be that chicane or a bump out or diverters or a round about or a traffic circle so we'll look and work with the neighborhood on what's the most affective traffic calming device or installation for them," said Michele DeMott, Albany Safe Communities.
To get speed bumps in a neighborhood, 60 percent of the people who live there have to sign a petition and agree to pay for them. One speed bump can cost as much as $1,500.
