ALBANY, GA (WALB) – People shedding pounds are donating hundreds of pounds of food to those in need.

In the past seven weeks, the members of Albany weight watchers have lost about 1,000 pounds and they're losing it for good. During that same time, they've collected 460 pounds of food to donate to the food bank of Southwest Georgia.

Linda Davis said, "It feels good because there are a lot of people out there hungry and this year because of the economy, there's not as much food being donated to the food bank, so they're really in need of it."

Weight watchers is holding more than 3300 food drives across the country. Members have collected more than two million pounds of food for community food banks.
