A Sumter County jury finds a former Americus cop not guilty of rape.

But, the jury convicted 39-year-old John Allen on felony charges of violation of the oath of office and lying to an officer. While responding to a domestic disturbance call in December 1999, Allen had sex with a mentally retarded woman who called police for help. He insisted it was consensual. Allen was acquitted on charges of rape, sodomy, and kidnapping.
