ALBANY, GA (WALB) -  Three months ago Calhoun County boys basketball coach Jerome Carter collapsed and died at the age of 47.

Tuesday night the school took time to honor their beloved coach at their first home game of the season.

Friends and family gathered at the Calhoun County gym before the boy's game and the jersey number 15 was retired in honor of coach Carter who wore the number when he played at Calhoun County in the late 1970's.

The jersey was placed just outside the gymnasium and Carter's sister Martha says it's great to know that her brother's legacy will always be remembered.

"To see them retire his jersey was the best thing that we could have ever seen for him. I mean this was a great honor for him you know this was his dream job" said Martha Carter.

The Calhoun County boys beat Americus-Sumter 67-61 in overtime. The girls lost to Americus-Sumter 53-49.
