ALBANY, GA (WALB) – When police arrested 35-year-old Kelvin Sloan and two of his suspected accomplices in May, detectives said the streets of Albany would be safer.

Police arrested Sloan after a string of home invasions in the city and Dougherty County. He was charged along with Erick Bowen and Tia McIver for a home invasion on Mitchell Avenue in Albany. Dougherty County Police then brought forward charges against him for his involvement in a home invasion on Regina Road.

Both crimes took place just days a part, each with the same MO. The victims were bound and tied up with duct tape and then pistol whipped while the robbers stole electronics from the homes.

Sloan's criminal trial resumes this week in Dougherty County. He is facing 19 felony counts including armed robbery and aggravated assault. Both charges carry sentences of up to 20 years in prison.  ©2009 WALB News. All rights reserved.
