AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - The Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes are ready to take the next step at the DII level.

Unfortunately they had a misstep in a 76-63 loss to West Alabama in their season opener Monday night at the Storm Dome.

The Tigers led by Lucas Hall and Jason Swanson jumped out to a 15-4 lead in the first half and never looked back.

Georgia Southwestern showed a balance offense with four Canes in double figures.

Chris Rawls and Evan Mobley led the Canes with 14 points each.

The news much better for the GSW women who beat Albany State 70-59 in the season opener for both teams.

Whitley Wiltz led the Lady Canes with 12 points.

The Lady Rams were led by Rosetta Daniels who also had 12 points.
