ALBANY,  GA (WALB) –There was confusion for county commissioners Monday over a request made by the city on the proposed consolidation charter.

The city recommends that Albany Water Gas and Light and its assets be part of the urban area if the county and city governments merge.

But county commissioners want to know if assets means revenue.

"If that restriction is in there now then that really goes against the whole idea of one government,"  said District 5 Commissioner Gloria Gaines.

"It seems to me like somebody's trying to split up the city and county before it ever gets together," said District 6 Commissioner Jack Stone. "So what we need to do is whoever we elect to run that thing if it's ever done, let them decide where they need to spend what money."

The Chairman said once they get clarification from the city regarding the issue of Water Gas and Light, they will vote on the request in the next meeting.
