ALBANY, GA (WALB) – In order to maintain proficiency and standards security forces in the US Air Force must continually train.
Part of that exercise happened this weekend in Tifton, the 820th security forces from Moody Air Force Base were training at the Tifton Airport.
They routinely strap on 70lbs of gear to do training exercises. The airmen leave the plane carrying their weapons, extra ammunition, food and some clothing on missions.
The unit commander said they frequently have to do the drills.
“it's very important, what we're doing now on airborne operations it's a very perishable skill we have to do it quite frequently, we try to jump at least once a month.” Col. Donald Derry, 820th Security Forces Group Commander.
Sunday's jump didn't happen because of mechanical problems with the C-130.
The 820th security forces is about 700 person group.
