Albany -- A popular and well known retired Albany Police Officer died Tuesday.
Sgt. Dwight Allen, who was the Albany Police Public Information Officer for nearly a decade, died Tuesday morning.
Allen spent nearly 23 years with the Albany Police. He was well known in the community for his ever present smile and friendly personality.
Albany Police Chief Bobby Johnson said Dwight Allen "was very friendly, and well liked by the public and his fellow officers alike. He will be remembered for that."
Allen received a heart transplant May 9, 1997, and returned to duty 18 months later. He retired in March, 2002.
