Superintendent suspended, public wants answers

February 24, 2003

Morgan- In a four to three vote last week, the Calhoun County School Board suspended Superintendent Threadcraft.

Monday they met to discuss a replacement. Some members say the suspension is not only in violation of the law, but unfair to constituents who have no idea why Threadcraft was suspended.

"I would say to anyone we need to put pressure on those board members to tell us what reason did they have to suspend our superintendent," exclaims Mary Barkley.

Board members and board attorney Larry Mims refused to tell us anything about the suspension, claiming it's a private personnel matter.

Superintendent Threadcraft was not at the meeting but also declined to comment.

The board chose assistant superintendent and curriculum director Alvetta Butler as a temporary replacement.
