ALBANY, GA (WALB) –Some families go without something as simple as good shoes to walk in. Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful wants to help change that.

For the first time this month, they're participating in Soles4Souls. It's a statewide initiative through Keep Georgia Beautiful.

The charity collects new and gently worn shoes for people in more than 125 countries. Keep Albany Dougherty Beautiful hopes South Georgians will pitch in.

"I'm just asking everybody to go to your closet and help somebody that doesn't add shoes. Soles4Souls is currently giving away 9 pair every second," said KADB Executive Director Judy Bowles.

People donating shoes only need to rubber band pairs of shoes together and drop them in the donation boxes at Keep Albany Dougherty Beautiful on Habersham Road or the recycling site on Meredyth Drive. You can donate through the end of November.
