TIFTON, GA (WALB) - With hurricane season getting active again, the Red Cross is trying to remind businesses how costly a natural disaster can be.

At the University of Georgia Conference Center in Tifton, business owners and emergency managers learned about disasters that can affect them and about El Nino's impact on South Georgia's weather.

While the main focus was on hurricanes, Red Cross officials say that they aren't the only disasters that we face.

John Wright of the American Red Cross listed some others: "tornadoes and floods. And of course, we have a lot of severe thunderstorms."

Wright says that 60 percent of businesses in communities that are struck by natural disasters are driven out of business and that having a good plan can help to keep those businesses open.
