Burglar smashes door of downtown Albany restaurant

By Jim Wallace - bio | email

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A nervous thief sat outside a popular downtown Albany restaurant late last night for more than a half hour, and then threw a concrete seat through the side door to break in, and it's all caught on surveillance video.

The man sat in the courtyard beside Riverfront Bar-B-Que on West Broad Avenue about 10:30 PM, nervously walking around.

Finally about 11 he picked up this piece of the concrete bench and threw it through the side door of the restaurant. The thief dashed inside, and came out within seconds with a five foot tall bubble gum machine.

Police found the gumball machine about a block away in a dumpster, unopened. The door will cost about $500 to repair.
