ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Albany church internationally known for its Christian films is about to unveil plans for its next movie. Sherwood Baptist Church will announce the movie title and theme to their congregation November 15th.
Because of the success of "Facing the Giants" and "Fireproof" that announcement is turning into a major media event.
Fireproof Sherwood Baptist's third movie, "Fireproof" grossed more than $33 million in theaters since its September 2008 release, and sold two point 7 million DVD's. Their book "The Love Dare" that came from the movie plot has been on the New York Time's bestseller list for 52 weeks, and sold more than three million copies.
So what's next is big news. More than 60 media outlets will be there in ten days when the Kendrick brothers announce their next venture. And they are not worried, just because they are still writing the script.
Associate Minister Alex Kendrick said, "Lord willing we will shoot next year. But again a lot has to fall into place. We're not saying anything is in stone. We're still in stages of prayer."
The brothers spent three months expanding their best seller "The Love Dare" to a new 365 days devotional for couples. That will be released December 1st, and has already pre-sold 200,000 copies.
Associate Minister Stephen Kendrick said, "We believe that God was leading us to make this movie and to write this book, and we are also praying he can do more than we can ask or imagine. That's exactly what he's done. He's done that with all three movies."
The first Love Dare book has also become a top iPhone app by AT&T, and the Kendrick brothers admit they are amazed by the different media spreading their message for God.
"Alex and I don't even have iPhones, but it's funny with all the apps out there, we got word "The Love Dare" was the number one app on Apple. That it hit number one, so that was a shock to us," Stephen Kendrick said.
Alex and Stephen Kendrick receive thousands of e-mails from around the world because of their movies and book, people telling them that their work has touched their spiritual lives. They and the Church are going to continue, and they say they are not concerned about whether the fourth movie will build on the Church's remarkable success. They say it's all in God's hands.
"He's not sitting on the throne saying I don't know what to do. It's another opportunity to trust him. To walk closer to him," Alex Kendrick said.
So far that faith has led their movie ministry to some truly remarkable film success.
The Kendrick brothers started making movies to find new methods to reach people with the word of God besides just preaching in a pulpit. They've been so successful that media from around the world will be here soon to find out about their next project. The church set up a website in preparation for the big announcement.
